Echoes Act

A game focusing on the immersion of playing from a non-human perspective.

Play as Echoe, a dolphin who wants to clear the ocean of rubbish! Due to the low visibility in the depths of the ocean, you must use echolocation to traverse the environment and find the different pieces of rubbish and the bins they go into. Use the high frequency pulse in open areas for long-range, high speeds, and the low frequency pulse in enclosed areas to better see caves and openings.

Each piece of rubbish has a corresponding bin of the same colour, with pulse-emitting coral nearby to help guide you in the right direction. Place the 5 pieces in their correct bins to finish the level!

Play with headphones and a controller for the best experience. This game uses 3D audio and haptics to help immerse the player in the game environment.

Research and Evaluation

Research into animal echolocation, human sensory modalities, and immerison in video games has been performed to create a game where players can experience a new sense in echolocation while they play from the perspective of a non-human. 

HLSL and Shadergraph shaders have been created to better this experience and provide the greatest level of immersion. 

User testing and evaluation in both quantitative and qualititive data was gathered to help conclude the level of immersion provided by playing video games from the perspective of a non-human.
